Board Members

The BID is led by a volunteer Board of local business people who have considerable experience of running companies within the BID area. They share a common belief in the value of businesses working together and in the arrangements for the Ferndown & Uddens BID to deliver improvements.

Russell Bowyer

Chair and MD, Custom World Dorset
www.customworld.net

Size of business: 38 employees
Length of time on estate: 30 years

Why I joined the Board

I could see the real benefit to businesses on the Ferndown & Uddens Industrial Estates of having a shared voice of 300 plus businesses. Having visited the Segensworth Estate and witnessed first-hand what they have achieved in a joint venture with their local council. Together they have successfully resolved a significant traffic problem on their estate and this really opened my eyes to the opportunities available to Business Improvement Districts.

Mark Wallis

Commercial Director of Superior Seals Limited and Superior Specials Limited
www.superiorltd.com

Size of business: 170 employees
Length of time on the estate: The business came to the Ferndown Industrial Estate in 1972.

Why I joined the Board

As a major employer and property owner on the Ferndown and Uddens Industrial Estates, I want the Estate to have a good all round environment for our business and our employees. Currently the Estates look “tired” and to improve this we need someone to coordinate improving signage, security, communication (both by internet and buses). To name but three issues that immediately occur to me. I am sure there are a lot more that collectively we could list.

David Calvert

Owner and MD of Bayquest Ltd
www.bayquest.co.uk

Size of business: 4 full time employees, including myself, and 3 part-time
Length of time on the estate: I established Bayquest in 1982 and moved the business to Uddens Trading Estate in 1993

Why I joined the Board

I joined the board because I think the establishment of a BID for the estates is an excellent idea and I wanted to try and contribute to that where possible.

Duncan-Graham-1024x1024

Duncan Graham

Development Director, Autoglaze Ltd & Technical Window Films www.autoglaze.co.uk
www.technicalwindowfilms.co.uk

Size of business: 17 employees, established 26 years
Length of time on the estate: Moved from Bournemouth in January 2012

Why I joined the Board

I joined the board as it seemed to me as if the opportunity for improvement in environment and cross business working was completely untapped. Having never been located within a sizable and densely populated business area before, I was surprised that many of the businesses had a very individual outlook and although all face common problems most chose to tackle them alone, or not at all!

Graham-Ball-new-1024x1024

Graham Ball

Ex managing Director of Ward Goodman Limited

Size of Business: 68 employees
Length of time on Estate: We moved to the estate in October 2000

Why I joined the Board

Since moving onto the estate it has been clear that we have 350+ businesses all inventing there own wheel. Many businesses have the same issues and it is clear to me that the BID could help make business slightly easier and potentially give these businesses a competitive edge. One voice, group discounts and group training are what brought me to the board.

Danny-Godfrey-1024x1024

Danny Godfrey

MD and CEO The Warmer Group
www.thewarmergroup.co.uk

Size of business: 80 employees operating from 4 sites on the estate. Established 26 years
Length of time on the estate: 16 years

Why I joined the Board

I’ve always believed in the value of collaborating with other businesses where possible. There are more than 350 companies on the estate but I suspect many of us don’t really know our neighbours and the opportunities of learning from each other. The BID is a great means of expanding your local network and identifying collective benefits.

Ferndown & Uddens BID Manager

The Board is supported by manager who is contracted to develop the BID proposition through to ballot in June/July 2014

Kevin Poulton

Why I joined the BID: I have extensive experience in local economic development and business support including the formation of business led forums and BID’s. I am delighted to help the development of this BID and its Business Plan as I believe it provides a major opportunity for the local business community to shape the future.
